Binocular stargazing subject of workshop at library

Friday, September 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Valley Center Dark-Sky Advocates (VCDA) will host another binocular star gazing workshop.

The one-hour classroom workshop will be held in the Community Room of the Valley Center County Library. Afterwards, participant will move outdoors where they can practice their new skills viewing celestial objects in the night sky with guidance from VCDA members.

Door Prizes: A random drawing will be held for two door prizes:

“Binocular Stargazing” by Mike Reynolds.

Celestron 7×50 Astronomy Binoculars.

Participants must sign-up for the workshop by emailing the address below indicating how many people will be in their party:

Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars if they have them. There will be some loaner binoculars available for use.

The workshop will include instruction in the selection and operation of binoculars, learning how to use them to view nebulae and star clusters. An introduction to popular planetarium applications available online. In addition, there will be instruction on how to locate objects by “star hopping” from bright constellations or stars to an object. Star charts will be provided which can be taken home for later use.
