(Nashua, NH) - This week, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services and Appropriations Committees, visited BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems Sector Headquarters in Nashua to learn more about how her support for critical technologies and defense programs in the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and appropriations bills strengthens BAE’s role in New Hampshire’s defense industrial base. Shaheen has historically fought for significant investments in New Hampshire’s defense industry, including by supporting funding for BAE’s Compass Call program and the procurement of advanced fighter aircraft, which employ BAE’s electronic warfare systems, to ensure the Air Force remains equipped with the best fighter aircraft fleet in the world. During her visit, Shaheen also spoke with BAE Systems executives about the ways the CHIPS and Science Act is helping produce microchips, an essential part of the defense industry and critical to national security. The visit follows the recent Senate passage of the fiscal year (FY) 2024 NDAA, which Shaheen helped author and pass.

“Granite Staters are at the forefront of developing new, innovative defense systems and technologies that will support our defense industry and bolster national security and I was thrilled to see that first-hand during my visit at BAE Systems,” said Shaheen. “Innovators across our state are advancing technologies to keep our Armed Forces equipped with the tools they need to defend our country, and as Congress continues negotiating this fiscal year’s National Defense Authorization Act, I’ll keep fighting to ensure New Hampshire has the resources to continue the development and manufacturing of defense programs and technologies.”

“Our manufacturing facilities in Nashua produce high-quality, trusted products that are critical to the safety and security of the U.S. military,” said Ray Brousseau, vice president of Operations for BAE Systems. “As such, we were happy to give Senator Shaheen – a senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services and Defense Appropriator – a tour of our campus.”

Senator Shaheen is a leader in the U.S. Senate to bolster the domestic defense industrial base to ensure U.S. troops have the cutting-edge equipment they need to defend the nation and deter adversaries. In early June, Shaheen toured three New Hampshire defense manufacturing facilities and met with the companies’ leadership ahead of a bipartisan congressional delegation visit to the Paris Air Show. Last month, Shaheen helped pass the NDAA FY 2024 through the Senate. In the FY 2024 bill, she secured key provisions to support New Hampshire’s defense industrial sector, for industries such as BAE Systems in addition to federal dollars that support the workforce and suppliers that comprise New Hampshire’s submarine industrial base, among other priorities.
